Pharmacy Technician Job Description
The job description for pharmacy technician is primarily involve in assisting licensed pharmacists in clerical nature of duties associated with the management of a pharmacy. Specifically they may do the jobs like cashiers or clerks who are given the responsibility of managing money, answering telephone calls, supplying and stocking shelves and performing other administrative nature of duties.
As regards the educational backgrounds, most of the pharmacy technicians do ordinarily have a certificate or degree or diploma program. This facilitates them to gain increased pay packets and also to find jobs more easily. A pharmacy technician has to ensure the efficiency in the operations of a pharmacy. Duties and roles primarily involve setting up and maintenance of patient records, managing insurance claims and handling supplies of pharmacy products.
A pharmacy technician must be a good communicator. He should be able to communicate with the third party while handling insurance related matters. Similarly he should have proper knowledge on inventory management and must always ensure that the pharmacy is stocked with the appropriate medications. As a pharmacy technician deals with drugs and its stocks, he should observe necessary safety norms for their safe keeping and protection.
In case the size of the pharmacy is larger one, then a pharmacy technician job may typically focus on measuring medication and directly dealing with patients.
At a small town pharmacy, pharmacy technicians may be required to do all types of jobs starting from operating the cash register, answering the telephone, dealing with customers and pharmacists, handling other administrative duties being the in charge of the pharmacy. 
The said pharmacy technician may even be required to fill prescriptions that include weighing, counting, measuring and mixing medication. A pharmacy technician may be required to work with one or many other technicians and pharmacists within the same or different environments. This demands that he should be sound in the basic inter-personal skills and human relations techniques.
Due to increase in the retail customers (for increase in population of elderly people) the demand for pharmacy technician jobs is expected to increase by 25% by the year 2018 as per a recent study.
